Has anyone experienced tremors from Lamictal?
A family member who has bipolar illness was hospitalized last week for depression. They were switched from Abilify to Lamictal. Previous to this they had some hand tremors which most likely are from the Lithium he takes. He noticed once he was in the hospital that his hand tremors got much worse and he began to have slight legs tremors too.
He saw a neurologist yesterday who said his leg tremors look like the beginning of Parkinson’s Disease OR it may be just a side effect from the Lamictal (although tremors wasnt reported as a side effect of Lamictal in the PDR).
So my family member believes that the Lamictal worsened his hand tremors and is causing the leg tremors. Has anyone experienced this as well? I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your help.

I took Lamictal for a while and got stomach pains about an hour after I took it everytime even though it isn’t a side effect listed. So it is possible the tremors are from the meds.
Certian antipsychotic drugs have side effects that cause tics or tremors. I know that one of the more severe side-effects with Abilify is tardive dyskinesia, which may be permanant. Tardive dyskinesia is a neurological disorder which causes purposeless and involuntary movements. However, the movements are more jerk-like, whereas tremors are more of a shaking movement.
As far as the tremors being a side-effect from Lamictal, I have seen it happen before, but not too often. I don’t know if all this is helpful, but it may be another point of approach to finding the source of the tremors.
