I keep running into walls on this, is there someone out there who could help lead me in the right direction?

tremor

I’ve had these problems as a child, would shake when hungry. Drs thought then I had hypoglycemia. I haven’t questioned things since the diag of Begnin Essential Tremor, just knew when I get sick its time to eat. I forgot to bring food to work recently and got very sick. I looked at a man crossing the street and it looked like he skipped frames. It sounded like someone turned the volume all the way down & I got really dizzy. Last night my moods were ALL over the place, I started crying then after I ate I got happy for a short time. Then I felt everything plummet and I was a millisecond away from blacking out. Today I didn’t get any better, the dr advised me to go to ER (my fiance said it looked like I was deteriorating). They did a random sugar test w/a home device(1.5hrs after a big bowl of turkey chilli w/soycheese)and it showed 94. Always thirsty, cannot drink enough water. Hungry EVERY 2 hours or I feel faint. The older I get, the sicker I get. I keep responding less to food.
My dr told me to get a book on hypoglycemia (to learn how to control my sick spells better). They had a story in there of a girl who was always exhausted, depressed, couldn’t hold a job, lost motivation, would get sick & drs said tests showed she was normal, she believed it was nothing and refused to change her diet, and she would constantly get bronchitis/asthma. All the signs she showed were me in every essence. I had bronchitis 3 or 4 times from childhood to 19, and after I developed asthma all the nurses in my pediatrition’s office, saw me so much, they called me “the asthma child”. My new dr is putting me through a 5hr glucose test in a few days. The ER dr said he thought everything will come back normal. He couldn’t even answer what this could be. I was diag w/ADD, but after I traded bad for healthy food (& workout 3-6x a week), it practically went away. You know your body, and I know something is not fully right. Its such a struggle to get actual help.

Go to your doctor and DEMAND that he give you a complete physical (blood tests, urinalysis, the works)……….When you find out that it is something simple, you will feel much better psychologically about it……..It’s the not knowing that is driving you nuts…..Take care, dear………..

I’m no doctor, but normal blood sugar’s around 100, so yours wasn’t terribly low when you had it tested at the ER. I have a friend who’s diabetic and she’s always thirsty, and feels sick if she doesn’t eat right or take care of herself. I’d find another doctor if I were you and get yourself taken care of. Good luck to you.

Doesn’t sound like a blood sugar problem to me. As far as I know, bronchitis has nothing to do with low bs. Get a new doctor who will take you seriously and do a full work up.

I have Type II (non insulin dependent) Diabetes. When I was younger, I had EXTREME hypoglycemia. My BS would be anywhere from 45 to 90. I felt the same way you described. I went to dr after dr, but no one listened. I ignored my problems, now here I am, with full blown Diabetes. DEMAND that your dr due a series of blood work on you. Two tests to get for sure are…

    1. A1C
    2. 1 or 3 hour fasting

These will find out your normal range & see if you do have hypoglycemia or even borderline diabetes.

If you find that you actually have Hypoglycemia I can suggest some truly natural Shaklee products that should be very helpful.

Extra Unheated Protein Supplement: regulates blood sugar; strengthens glandular functions
Alfalfa Complex: helps regulate glandular functions
B Complex: allows adrenal-pancreas-liver balance of blood sugar
Zinc: strengthens glandular functions; hair analyses reveals that most hypoglycemics are deficient
Vitamin C: for adrenal glandular insufficiency
    CorEnergy (Shaklee Ginseng/Cordeceps): glandular benefits
    CoEnzymeQ10: energizes adrenals

okay. Get a box or roll of Glucose tabs, eat one when you first start to feel the effects. They are cheap and you can get them at any drug store. Hope you get better.

I too have had the glucose tolerance test and came back normal, but I know that I have low blood sugar because I’ve tested when I feel really weak and shaky and I’ve been around 60.

I make sure that I eat some protein about every 3 hours and I do not have a problem getting low blood sugar. It can be diet related.

Breakfast I eat a protein bar and mid morning eat some nuts, lunch with protein, mid afternoon eat some nuts or 1/2 of a protein bar then make sure and eat protein at dinner. With all the low fat craze we just aren’t getting enough protein.

Avoid sugary snacks and if you eat fruit or veggies for a snack, add some protein such as peanut butter or cheese with them. I always keep some almonds in my bag and if I’m not going to be able to eat for a while I can eat a few nuts and that will keep me from getting too low.

Yogurt is a good snack that has some protein, get the low carb ones sweetened with splenda or unsweetened fruit. Best thing is to get plain yogurt and add sliced strawberries, blue berries or any low sugar fruit. Berries are lowest.

I’ve also used soy nuts for snacks and they work well.

I have heard that there is such a thing as diet induced hypoglycemia where you aren’t eating enough protein or often enough to keep your blood sugars level. It is recommended to eat 5 small meals a day in stead of 3 large.

Try a low glycemic index diet. There are a # of books out there.

Sounds like you have a number of symptoms of Diabetes, please get it checked out. They can do a test that tells them what your average readings were for the last 3 months. Random checks or infrequent checks can miss low readings but this test will be a good indicator.

    Good luck!

I am a type 1 diabetic it really sounds like insulin shock, bgc is too low. Carry something in your pocket book like the last girl said, crackers, nuts a piece of fruit. When you go low just remember you might be tempted to grab for a candy bar and it will help for a little bit but it will wear off fast and before you know it your passed out with an ambulance on the way. Instead pick something with good carbs, a turkey sandwich with whole wheat bread it will keep you going and last until snack time. Glucerna is great tastes really good and you can keep a bar in your pocket for a pick me up or a snack. I always have OJ in my fridge just in case.
Ask your DR to do a hemoglobin A1C, and a fasting bgc you should be fasting for as long as you can handle usually 5-6 hours. You can get in touch with Accu-check they have a promotion going on right now where they just sent me a new monitor for free, if your really concerned check into that.
As far as your vision and hearing yes insulin shock can do that where you come out of it and are temporally blind happened to me once, your moods being up and down is common, if your bgc is too low I know it sounds retarded- but if you were a wild animal and were starving you would become aggressive ( had my DR tell me that) for food. There are all kinds of books, web sites if you want to educate yourself on the matter. Take care of your self, feed your body, and keep a log book of when and what you are eating and how much.

Doctor is doing glucose tolerance test to see how your body responds to making insulin for the glucose. Best way to figure out if you are diabetic or hypoglycemic. If you are either you need to see a dietitian who will discuss your habits foods you enjoy etc.. That dietitian will change your life you will be given times to eat along with a healthy diet to controll your problem. The best way to controll diabetes and hypoglycemia is by know what and when to eat works great hardly ever have a problem now. Try crystal lite in your water there are tons of sugar free flavors that make water consumption easier also try ice water. Took me years to find a way to drink water always thought I was gonna puke.

Ask your doctor to run a homocystein level on you. It sounds like your homocystein (pronounced as homo-sis-teen) is either too low or too high. A few years ago I had low blood sugar with similiar symptoms as yours. I blacked out at my mother’s one evening and went to the hospital by ambulance. Upon arrival my blood sugar was 30. I was given an i.v. with lots of sugar. My body instantly got warmer and I came too. It was close for I almost died! It was determined then that my homocystein level was out of whack. There is treatment for that. Ask your doctor for this test. If he refuses, then go seek a second opinion. Your right you know when there is something wrong with your body. Doctors these days don’t always appreciate that their patients know things about their bodies. Some even poo-poo or dismiss what we have to say about our bodies. You need to find a doctor that genuinely cares about you and your symptoms and one that is willing to do some investigative work to find out the source(s) of your problems.

Good luck to you and I hope you feel better soon!
