Is shivering dog in pain a sign that there is something more going on?

tremor
Always Honest

Ok, I have NO idea what happened. All I know is this morning my dog yelped and I ran down the stairs to see her and she was laying down under the table. I called her to me and she came. But she has been acting strange ever since. She yelps when you touch her in the wrong spot and she is shivering. Do you think that this will heal or is the tremors a sign that something is really wrong? She is a very small dog, only 4 lbs. I’m worried.

yes, this behavior is very concerning and should be checked by a vet immediately. Problem is, if you can’t see an injury or source of pain, something on the inside, those probelms usually need help fast in order to provide proper care. sooner to a vet the better.

I would have her checked.. she yelps when you touch her in the wrong spot.. she is in pain. She may have fallen off the furniture and injured herself and ran to hide under the table.

You should have her checked, yelping trembling and acting strange are all potential signs of pain. She may have injured herself somehow when she was out of sight. Small breeds can have bad knees, sometimes all it takes to injure a leg is a funny step.

Watch her very carefully. Small dogs can be injured very easily, so she may have fallen down the stairs or otherwise been injured and now is hurting. Is she eating ok? Can she walk? Is her belly painful? If it were me I’d bring her to the vet, but that is because I have a small dog and I don’t take chances with my dog. Shivering can be a sign of pain, or a sign of a low temperature- which she may have if she is injured and in shock. My best advice is if you cannot afford to go to the vet, call one and ask for advice. 24-hour emergency vets are always there to help you and the phone call is free. Keep her warm and make sure she is eating. If she is not or begins to be really lethargic, please bring her in to the vet.

Definitely get your dog to the vet. Sounds like she’s in pain and possibly shock.

She needs to go to a vet without delay. She may have been bitten or stung by an insect or worse (are there spiders, wasps or even perhaps small snakes like a Copperhead around? Not likely snake though – a small dog would not have survived so easily this long). She may also have gotten an electrical shock (does she gnaw on electrical cords/are there any/damaged)?

Did she fall from something, e.g. perhaps get on counter or high stool and fall, hurting herself? ‘Yelps’ when touched in ‘wrong spot’ makes me wonder on that and perhaps the others, especially insect stings or bites.

Physical shock from a fall or impact or toxins come to mind – get her checked as soon as you can.

    Good luck.

No way to even guess, you don’t even know what happened, and you don’t tell which spot on the dog is sensitive. Shivering? She might be afraid it will happen again, she might be in pain.

She could have an ear infection. Dogs shiver and can be in severe pain. Also, they may walk lopsided if it is an ear infection. Call your vet!

    It could be 1001 things.

    Just go to the vet.
