my 10 mth old shepherd started having seizures, could bad pet pride dog food cause this reaction?

First time purchased pet pride dry dog food, 37.5 lb. bag. Three days after feeding it to my 10 mth. old shepherd, began having tremors and seizures. No history of any illnesses. Kidney test-good, white blood cell count-good, no central nervous system infection. Did not ingest household products, is chained when put outside. She is heavily medicated now to prevent tremors and seizures.

To be honest with you im not sure I know that I switched my Pup to Solid Gold after she was having allergic reactions to Pro Plan nutation has so much do do with a dogs health but it seems like you took her to the vet so I would just call them and see what they are thinking,….. Dont be afraid to ask you vet questions, as many as you want or need thats what they are there for and thats what you pay those expensive bills for too
IT is possible. Take a sample to your vet to have it tested. My dog started developing seizures at the age of 1 yr due to epilepsy. Did your vet have to medicate your dog to stop the seizure or medicate to stop continued seizures? What kind of medication is your dog on?
Pet Pride was one of the recalled food a few months back, and if it’s what I think it is, is a pretty low quality food.
I’m doubting that this food is causing the seizures – unless you accidentally got one of the recalled bags or she’s severely allergic to it.
If the dog is left outside alone on a chain, then you have to consider that a neighborhood person poisoned the dog. This is why dogs should never be left outside alone, much less at the end of a chain.
It’s also possible that the dog has an underlying condition like Epilepsy. Epilepsy is quite common in German Shepherds and many other dogs.
Good luck to your pup and I hope that she pulls through.
It could possibly be a reaction to the food. i would put her right back on the food she was previously on at least as a place to start.
Has your vet suggested any other testing? Has she been tested for epilepsy?
Pet Pride was part of the recall — however, the toxins involved in that affected kidney function (which you say is good). If the seizures have anything at all to do with the food, I’d suspect its an ingredient allergy.
I tried looking up the food to get an ingredients list, but (oddly enough), can’t find anything on the web about it other than the recall info. That tells me it’s probably pretty generic, which means it’s probably full of corn and wheat, as well as chemicals.
As soon as possible, I’d recommend switching to something that has little to no ingredients in common with this food — something hypo-allergenic. That’s the only way you’re going to be sure.
She’s probably on phenobarbital — I’d wean her off that as soon as you can. If you get her off the food, she may snap right out of the seizure cycle.
Good luck!
