My mother has developed severe tremors following heart surgery. She has been otherwise healthy up to now. She is 80, but just recently quit a part time job. Any suggestions as to what it might be? We thought possibly interactions between her medications.

There are certain medicines that cause a condition known as Pseudo Parkinsonism. It appears to look like Parkinson’s disease but it is caused by the drugs and not by a brain disorder. Only her doctor would know for sure.

If she is on any medication for mood or mental disease, there are side effects that can cause tremor. Another cause is low blood sugar. The list is very long. If the tremors are very distressing to her, or they interfere with her normal living, a doctor could best work up this problem.
